Hi folks! Today, on this Thursday evening, I bring you a fun book tag, who would’ve guessed? I wasn’t actually tagged but I saw this tag very recently over on Luna’s blog and it was created by Zuky. Since it’s about greek gods and I loved learning the mythology and legends when I was younger (still do, if I’m honest), it seemed like an impossible tag for me to pass over. So here we are – let’s get straight to it!

ZEUS: KING OF THE GODS – YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK

I have too many: Pride and Prejudice, Rebecca, Good Omens, Persuasion, The Graveyard Book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Six of Crows, The Secret History, Fangirl… I could go on.

HERA: QUEEN OF THE GODS – A BADASS FEMALE CHARACTER

Speaking of Six of Crows, can we talk about Inej Ghafa for a minute? Because Inej. Need I say more? I think not, the Wraith speaks for herself.

JANUS: GOD OF BEGINNINGS – YOUR FAVOURITE DEBUT(S)

I didn’t even realise this was a debut until I started thinking about this question but technically Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman counts as the latter’s first novel. It’s also one of my favourite books ever so I love to shoehorn it into a tag if I can!

ATHENA: GODDESS OF WISDOM – YOUR FAVOURITE NON-FICTION BOOK

Probably The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer. Until I read the book (well, listened to it on audiobook, which I’d highly recommend) I knew only very vague things about Amanda and her work, things I’d picked up by virtue of existing on the Internet and perusing Twitter often, but I was completely hooked by the message of her book. I don’t think you need to be a creative type or put yourself in a position of busking to appreciate the concepts she discusses in the book, they’re a lot more universal and principally about being brave enough to ask for help when you need it, because there’s no shame in it. I think we could all do with hearing that, tbh.

APHRODITE: GODDESS OF LOVE – A BOOK YOU ADORE AND RECOMMEND EVERYONE READ (OTHER THAN YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK!)

Although it IS one of my favourite books, I do enjoy recommending Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It’s a bit of a classic but it’s intriguing and thriller-y enough that it’s quite easy to get into and to read, even for those who aren’t avid readers. For this reason, I’ll always recommend it whenever I can!

HADES: GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD – AN EVIL BOOK YOU WISH DIDN’T EXIST

Ok here’s the thing: this book isn’t awful but I hate that it represents my failure to finish something, namely War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. If it didn’t exist, I wouldn’t have made it all the way until the very last section before I set it aside and didn’t go back to it for months so I forgot pretty much everything that had happened.

POSEIDON: GOD OF THE SEA & EARTHQUAKES – A BEAUTIFUL & GROUND-BREAKING BOOK

I’m gonna go for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It’s been difficult to exist in the online book community in the last year without hearing about this book and it’s worth all the hype and the praise because it was stunning, both in form and content. I didn’t realise I could care so much about a character and her relationships but, there I was, devouring this book on a holiday in Barcelona and feeling myself tear up as I turned the pages.

APOLLO: GOD OF THE ARTS – A BEAUTIFUL BOOK COVER

I own waaaay too many beautiful books but one I’m particularly in awe of is Imogen Hermes Gowar’s The Mermaid And Mrs Hancock. I haven’t got to it yet but by god it’s beautifully designed, I sometimes just stare at the cover to be honest.

HYPNOS: GOD OF SLEEP – A BOOK SO BORING YOU ALMOST FELL ASLEEP

I know I’m always cruel about this book but omg Adam Bede by George Eliot. I had to read it towards the end of winter term at university and it was so long and so dull, which it really shouldn’t have been given the subject matter!

HERMES: MESSENGER OF THE GODS – A BOOK YOU SPED THROUGH

The most recent example I can think of is And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I find Christie novels are always best enjoyed in one sitting and this was no exception so I just sped through it in a couple of hours.
