Welcome one, welcome all, to another Tag Thursday! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a tag and I wasn’t really seeing many around. Luckily, however, I recently stumbled across this particular tag on Beth’s blog. She created it and, ok, so I wasn’t tagged to do this tag but when have I ever let that stop me? Let’s jump straight into it…

A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

Liz is forever telling me that I will enjoy The Masked City, the second book in Genevieve Cogman’s series. I’ve read the first book and quite enjoyed it – the irony being I read The Invisible Library before Liz did and yet she continued with the series and I didn’t hurry to do so! Although she didn’t give it a rave review necessarily, she thinks I will really like the second book because, as you might be able to tell from the title, it’s set in Venice and I am a sucker for anything involving Italy.

A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up

Ignoring all the classics that have definitely been on my TBR way past their due, I think I’ll say Neil Gaiman’s Fragile Things. That one has been on my TBR since 2012, or so Goodreads tells me, so it’s kind of ridiculous that I haven’t picked it up yet given how much I LOVE Gaiman’s work and this is short stories so surely wouldn’t take as long to read as a full-blown novel (looking at you, American Gods).

A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten round to finishing yet

There are probably too many to count but my go-to answer to this will probably always and forever be (quite literally because I can’t seem to bring myself to finish the final book) The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. I love these books, so much that I don’t want them to be over, so I still haven’t read The Raven King, the fourth and final book. It’s gone waaay past the point of being ridiculous, I say this as an answer on so many tags that I kind of wonder what will step up and take it’s place when I finally just READ THIS DAMN BOOK.

A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but never actually read

I’ve always thought I might enjoy Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh but I’ve made next to no effort to ever pick it up. I’m not sure why I’ve ever thought I’d enjoy it, since I know next to nothing about its actual plot and even less about its characters, but I’ve just got a hunch and I’m kind of scared to have that hunch proved wrong or right!

A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read

It feels like everyone has read Vengeful by this point. It’s the sequel to V.E. Schwab’s Vicious and was published to much hype. I love Schwab, I do, and although I enjoyed Vicious when I finally made it through it (third time’s a charm!), it took a lot of false starts for me to finish it. So the premise seemed my jam but, in execution, it didn’t grip me as much as Schwab’s other stories… which is why I’ve put off reading Vengeful because I’m worried I might not like it as much as everyone else seems to. But, yeah, it feels like everyone has read this by this point. Not me though!

A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet

I really love Shakespeare adaptations, particularly when they’re modernised well. So it comes as no surprise that I love the film 10 Things I Hate About You. It probably is something of a surprise that I haven’t read The Taming of the Shrew though. Truth be told, I’m a little scared to, since I suspect it is nowhere near as empowering or satisfying as the film’s take on it is.

A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet

I’m going to have to say The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. A lot of book blogger and bookstagrammers I follow were granted either ARCs or physical copies of this prior to its publication date so it means I’ve seen it around a lot already. Add onto this the fact I follow Samantha Shannon and Bloomsbury on Instagram and, bam, not a day goes by when I haven’t seen a bunch of photos of this book looking wonderfully huge and beautiful. The reason I haven’t read it is a fair one, all things considered: it hasn’t been released yet, at the time of me writing this. Hopefully by the time this tag post is published though, I’ll be well on my way to correcting this!
