Well, today is Thursday which means it’s time for another tag! This week’s tag will be vaguely seasonal because the leaves on the trees are definitely a lovely golden palette nowadays which means Autumn is well and truly here. What a coincidence, then, that I recently happened across the Fall Book Tag over on Thrice Read’s blog. Let’s not waste any time, let’s get started on the tag…

Crunching Leaves: The world is full of colour – Choose a book that has red/orange/yellow on the cover

Cozy Sweater: It’s finally cold enough to don warm cozy clothing – What book gives you the warm fuzzies?

I probably shouldn’t answer Harry Potter again should I? There’s something tied to childhood nostalgia about it that makes any re-read warm and fuzzy, despite the shit that’s kicking off in the story itself.

I wish this weren’t the case but I’m a huge sucker for “chick lit”, I adore rom coms for all their predictability, you know what you’re getting when you start watching or reading something from that general genre. So, even though I’m aware it’s questionable, I really enjoy reading Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins.

Fall Storm: The wind is howling and the rain is pounding – Choose your favourite book or genre that you like to read on a stormy day

I think storms were made for two things – scary stories (the Gothic genre is more my bag than straight up horror) or fantasy. Hunkering down with a long fantasy book really is the perfect way to spend the Autumn and Winter seasons in my opinion.

Cool Crisp Air – What’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

Maybe it’s because I’m on a Six of Crows kick right now (I’ve just finished the sequel and my friend Liz is currently reading the first book), but Kaz is pretty damn cool and savvy and I’d love to trade places with him. I say I’d love to, I could do without the trauma or general sense of peril but, yeah, he’s so opposite to me in every way that I think maybe a little bit of peril would be good for me.

Hot Apple Cider – What under-hyped book do you want to see become the next big and hottest thing?

I sense I am going to deeply struggle with this question for one very important reason – I’m so plugged into the online book community that very few newly released books manage to make it under the radar these days. From the last few months though, I’ve noticed off-line not that many people talk about The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman, unless I’ve missed something (it’s quite possible I have). Likewise I adore The Raven Boys series by Maggie Stiefvater and I know it’s so incredibly hyped on Booktube, book blogs, even in bookshops, but I will say I don’t think enough general readers know about the series. That happens with a lot of YA, I find, it doesn’t necessarily register on the radar of the wider “real world”. Unless I’m missing something here and I’m the unknowing one?

Coat, scarves and mittens: the weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up – What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep covered up in public?

Anna and the French Kiss is fairly cringe-worthy, firstly because of the bright pink, then because of the title. In the same vein My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick – again because of the cover (a couple kissing) and then (a little bit) the title. I didn’t really read either of them in public, I only read them at home!

Pumpkin spice – What’s your favourite fall time comfort foods/drinks?

Any hot drinks are great in the colder months. I’m basic so I’ll admit it: I enjoy a Pumpkin Spiced Latte every now and then. Likewise hot chocolate makes more of an appearance in my cupboard from “Fall” onwards. In terms of comfort foods I just eat a lot of soup, to be honest, I’m a fairly simple person like that. When I’m reading it’s not so easy to eat said comfort food so I tend to go to biscuits instead, and I adore shortbread the most. Also I very, very specifically love Milk Chocolate Hobnobs and Borders’ Yoghurt, Cranberry & Pumpkin Seeds biscuits. Damn, now I’m hungry.

As you can see, I’m obsessed with comforting foods and drinks since this was the longest answer of all. Whoops, I swear I read books too!
