Tag | Summertime Madness Book Tag

,

Welcome one, welcome all, to another Tag Thursday!

*a moderate round of applause*

This week, I was all excited to bring you a summery tag since Britain was enjoying a spate of bizarrely nice and rather apt weather… the emphasis here is on the word was because, true to form, it has now turned rainy and windy and not at all summery. (Seriously, today, I experienced 3 weather conditions at the same time – blinding sunshine, wind, and storming rain – PICK ONE!) Still, let us all have our delusions as I bring you the Summertime Madness Book Tag. Quelle surprise – I found this tag via the lovely ladies over at Thrice Read so be sure to check out their blog too. Let’s dive into the tag…

1. Show a book with a Summery cover! i.e Sun, Beach etc.

I don’t have very many summery books, since I tend to read fantasy, but I think these contemporaries below do fit the bill for sun-drenched, summery looking covers:

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick and We Were Liars and The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by e. lockhart – so summery that it hurts that it’s actually raining outside now and I want to dive into all of these books instead.

2. Pick one fictional place that would be the perfect destination for your Summer Vacation!

As I mentioned in last week’s Pride and Prejudice book tag post, I’d like to holiday with the elves in Rivendell from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien… I mean I might never come back off holiday but them’s the breaks. However, for the sake of variety, I’ll chose a second one: I’d holiday in Bellezza from Mary Hoffman’s City of Masks – so, basically, what I’m saying is that I’d like to vacation in a Renaissance-era Venice, please and thank you.

3. You’re about to go on a flight to your Summer Vacation. But you want to read a book that lasts for the whole flight so what novella do you choose?

I don’t tend to do novellas but there is one that’s caught my eye – Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. I’m super intrigued by the premise – the story is centred around kids who come back from portal fantasies (like the Chronicles of Narnia books) and the effects that that journey has had on them.

4. You have a case of Summertime Sadness what happy book do you pick up to shine a smile on your face?

There would be something very wrong with me if I managed to read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell without ending up with a dorky smile on my face by the end of it. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows throughout the book itself though – it’s real and it’s relatable and it makes me feel all the things.

5. You’re sitting at the beach all alone…which fictional character would be your beach babe?

I don’t quite understand the question… as in who would I want there purely for eye candy? Is that what “beach babe” means? (I’m thinking Baywatch here folks, is that wrong?) Because I read mainly fantasy so the idea of any of these book boyfriends in swimming shorts is just hilarious to me, they’d be so uncomfortable and probably blush… which tbh makes me kind of love the idea. (Like imagine Mr Darcy at the beach… that’s a funny af mental image, right?) I think in that vein I’m going to choose Matthias from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. He’s such a stick in the mud but I adore him and he’s definitely someone who needs to chill out on a beach and just relax. Plus I will gladly fulfill the role of the shameless Nina in this equation and try to make him blush and it will be a lark for all involved (i.e. me).

6. To match your ice cream you want an icy cool sidekick! Which fictional sidekick do you pick?

I’m not sure they’d be very happy to be called sidekicks but I think it would be fun to have the Weasley twins as sidekicks – they would sure know how to have a good time and I imagine any day spent with them would be spent in fits of laughter. And they totally count as one person, right? (Look, you just can’t have one without the other. Do you hear me, JK Rowling, dO YOU?!)

Well, there we have it, that was the nice and succinct Summertime Madness Book Tag.
If you would like to join in and do the tag yourself, please do consider yourself tagged by me and be sure to link me to your efforts down below because I’d love to read your responses!
