March TBR

,

Sooo I have a fraught relationship with TBRs – I’m generally good at sticking to them if it’s for a short-term thing, i.e. a readathon, but if it’s a month-long or (worse still) year-long, I promptly forget about every single book I wanted to read as soon as I write it down on some form of TBR. Like I said, “fraught” would probably be an apt descriptor.

However, as I’ve been drawing out my monthly bullet journal spreads thus far this year, I’ve happened to include a page for that month’s TBR. Sure, I do add to the page throughout the month if I decide to read something that wasn’t originally on there, but I also still really try to think ahead and plan what I want to read for the upcoming month. So as I was drawing out my fresh spreads for March, I thought if I’m doing this anyway – and, let’s face it, making it quite permanent considering it’s right there, in my bullet journal, in black ink – why not also tell my blog/the internet about it and give myself even more accountability? ‘Why not’ indeed.

Handily, this isn’t just your average March TBR though, it’s also a TBR for a readathon, specifically Zoe’s 24-hour long readathon, aptly named Readathon by Zoe, which is happening this Saturday, 3rd March. Hopefully setting a TBR for both a very short-term goal that is that readathon and for the whole of March will play to my strengths and I’ll manage to actually stick to said TBRs. If I don’t, well, then this post was just a nice indication of what books I felt like reading at this present moment in time, a snapshot of my reading taste at this point in the year, if you will. We shall see…

Readathon by Zoe TBR

As I said, since it’s a 24-hour readathon, I’m unlikely to finish a full book but I do always like to have a potential stack to choose from so that I can read something whatever my mood happens to be on Saturday, or whichever format I end up reading from, be it audiobook or ebook or a good old fashioned hardcover. Let’s just take a look at the books I’m hoping to read from…

  1. Saga Volume 8 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
  2. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman [audiobook]
  3. The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge

That’s all, folks! As you can see from my January Wrap-Up and February Wrap-Up, thinking I’ll read 10 books this month is definitely rather optimistic, but I’d rather aim high and fall short than not aim high at all to begin with. (Now if only I could apply this philosophy to things other than my reading, huh?)

What books are you planning to read in the month of March?
Are there any new releases you’re really looking forward to picking up this month?
And are you taking place in Zoe’s readathon on Saturday? If you are, say hi, we can cheer each other on throughout the day!

    • Thanks – happy reading to you too! I’ve ended up reading The Essex Serpent already and I LOVED it, so glad I finally picked it up this month. :)

  1. I have the worst luck with monthly TBRs too. I set one for March though because I’m participating in MiddleGradeMarch and EmojiAthon. I have The Hazelwood on my Kindle. I really need to read it and review it. I keep forgetting to get to my eBooks though because my physical TBR is so huge.

    • I know that feeling! I’m trying to get on top of a couple of eARCs I have from NetGalley but it always comes at the detriment of other things. I keep forgetting my Kindle book collection exists to be honest, I really need to stop doing that and actually get to reading some of them!

  2. I’ve only read three books from your list (Neverwhere, The Immortalists, and Circe) and they were all five-star reads for me. Neverwhere is one of my favorite audiobooks – I’ve listened to it twice now. Great list!

    • Oo I’m hopeful about these books since they come so highly recommended/rated! I’m really enjoying Circe at the moment, and it’s reminding me how much I used to love reading about Greek mythology so it may very well spiral into me picking up more books based on Greek myths and legends. :)

    • Oo fun! I hope you did manage to participate and enjoyed the readathon! I didn’t end up reading A LOT but I did pretty well considering I’m never able to read flat out for the full 24 hours. Sometimes it’s just nice to decide to dedicate a day solely to reading. :)
