I know what you’re thinking – Emma, didn’t you just post a monthly June TBR? Why yes, astute reader, I did… but then I learnt from Kelly that the Marvel-A-Thon readathon was a Thing that was happening, and pretty much any TBR plans I had were kicked to the kerb because I love the MCU. I decided it would be pretty poor form to bypass the opportunity to take part in a Marvel-themed reading challenge… so here we are with another TBR post in the space of a few days. But it’s ok, everyone loves a TBR, right? Right!
If you haven’t heard about the Marvel-A-Thon, let me explain: it’s run by Jamieson of Jamishelves and you should pop over to her blog to see the official announcement post with all the relevant details. Put simply, it runs from midnight on 1st June until midnight of 1st July and there are 21 MCU-based reading prompts to try to read books for. These challenges are split into the Phases of the MCU and you must complete a phase before moving onto the next. You’re allowed two skips per phase, and you can carry over any skips you didn’t use in a previous phase. Also, if you buddy read something with a reading pal then you can also ‘give’ one of your reads to your buddy, and vice versa. E.g. if you buddy read something for ‘Hulk’ you can give your buddy the ‘Thor’ challenge, and get the ‘Avengers’ challenge read from them – which is what myself and my buddy are probably going to do!
Sound fun? You in? Well, Avengers Assemble and let’s look at the challenges and what I’ll be reading for them:
PHASE ONE
Iron Man: first book in a series
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Hulk: book with a green cover — *BUDDY READ*
The Witches by Roald Dahl
Iron Man 2: an unpopular book
Genuine Fraud by e. lockhart
Thor: a book with myths/mythology — *GIVE TO BUDDY*
Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman (audiobook)
Captain America: book set/written in World War 2 — *SKIP*
Avengers: book with multiple POVs — *GET FROM BUDDY*
PHASE TWO
Iron Man 3: book that will challenge you

Dark World: book with siblings
The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton
Winter Soldier: main character is a villain/anti-hero — *BUDDY READ*
Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident by Eoin Colfer
Guardians: set/written in the 80s — *GIVE TO BUDDY*
The Sandman Vol. 1 by Neil Gaiman
Ultron: book involving AI — *SKIP*
Ant Man: book involving a heist/thieves — *GET FROM BUDDY*
PHASE THREE
Civil War: book about enemies/rivalry
Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Dr Strange: involves medicine
Fragile Lives by Stephen Westaby
Guardians 2: set in/involves space
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Spider-Man: YA book involving secrets
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Ragnarok: a popular book — *BUDDY READ*??
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
Infinity War: book that fulfils multiple challenges
A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
Black Panther: own voices with black main character
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Captain Marvel: book with a female main character
State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury
Avengers 4: a book you don’t know anything about
The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green
Phew, that was a lot of challenges and books. As you can see, there are many categories (particularly in phase 3) where I haven’t locked down a read yet at the time of writing this. However, once I make my way through the different challenges, I’ll alter this post accordingly when I settle on something to read for the later films. In the meantime, wish me luck for getting through these books in June? And if you want to take a look at how I’m doing, please check out my updates thread on Twitter which I’ll be periodically updating with my (hopeful) progress!
Are you taking part in the readathon? Let me know below if so, and I’ll check out your TBR and try to cheer you on in June too!
