The Terror of Knowing

I’m fairly new to this whole blogging about books thingymajig (you may have noticed??) and through perusing many booktube videos I have come across many a read-a-thon that I have, unfortunately, been too late to attend. So imagine my delight when I found out about this super low-key, low-pressure read-a-thon called The Bout of Books which fits perfectly with what I need for my very first read-a-thon! I’m excited to participate in my very first read-a-thon – to pop that particular cherry, if you will – and hope to come bearing updates throughout the week! :]

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

So, I’m not quite sure how successful this will be considering I prefer to read in the evenings but I have a few things actually making me leave the house this week – yeah, I know, I have to go outside, I shudder at the mere thought of it. I’m also off to the ever-lovely Liz‘s home in Liverpool to meet up with friends from university for the first time since we graduated in July which should be super fun but it does mean my weekend will be decidedly not devoted to reading that much. I do, however, have 3-hour train journeys to get there/home again so that’s prime time to get down to some good reading, or so I hope.

My (tentative) TBR for this read-a-thon is purposefully short books because I have some hefty tomes on my August TBR as it is and ugh no thank you, I’d prefer this:

1. The Remains of the Day – Kazuo Ishiguro
2. Notes from an Exhibition – Patrick Gale
3. ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore – John Ford (a play I totally read in my Early Modern course a year ago totally read it honest)
4. King Lear – William Shakespeare (inspired by the fact I recently saw an excellent NT Live broadcast of Sam Mendes’ Lear)

A couple of novels and a couple of plays, hopefully I can get through that but who knows, here’s to hoping!
