The Terror of Knowing

I’ve started to flip between feeling immense guilt for spending money on books when I’m trying to save money for the future and between thinking BUT BOOKS – it’s a dilemma I’m sure most book lovers can appreciate. Documenting all the books I’ve accumulated since Christmas will hopefully illustrate to me how much of a book buying problem. I’m not saying it will solve the problem but at least I’ll be properly aware of just how much money I’m wasting on books. That being said, I’m very intrigued/excited/itching to read every single one of these books, so not a complete waste of money, I think we can all agree on that. (Plus the pictured stack at least was purchased second-hand from a local charity shop which helps fund an autism charity so I feel like less of a terrible person if my money is at least channelled into the pockets of that.)

So, wow, that’s a whopping 49 books in total, which is probably far too many. However it could have been much worse considering this is covering nearly 3 months and me in possession of both Christmas money and a new found salary from the job I started in January. Really, considering the circumstances, I’m doing okay, not brilliant, but not disastrous since I’ve somehow managed to shuffle a few books around here and there to be able to fit these new additions on my shelves. (If I need to purchase a new shelf or start stacking books on the floor, that’s when I know I’ve bought too many in too short a space of time!) And yet I still persist in utilising the full force of my local library on top of these new additions – it’s safe to say I will never learn, but that’s fine because I’m enjoying my reading lately and I think that’s all any book lover wants!
